# Ideal/Adjusted Body Weight mechanism

The inspectable method record for Ideal/Adjusted Body Weight, kept separate from implementation and qualification.

Status: **VERIFIED_CLEAN**Lifecycle: **verified-clean**

## Model scope

The existing educational-reference and not-medical-advice label is appropriate, but IBW and AdjBW are method-dependent estimates and are not universally valid dosing weights. Drug-specific dosing rules, clinical judgment, and local protocols may use different formulas or correction factors.

- The Devine IBW formulas are standard when height is measured in total inches and body weight is in kilograms.

- The specification does not define behavior for height below 60 inches: it must state whether the formula is extrapolated using a negative inches-over-60 value or whether the excess is clamped at zero.

- The sex input is ambiguous: only Men and Women constants are provided, with no defined mapping for nonbinary, intersex, or unspecified inputs.

- The specification does not explicitly state that ActualBW must be in kilograms, so unit consistency is not guaranteed.

## Units and conventions

- Height must be total inches for direct use in the formula; if entered in centimeters, convert using inches = centimeters / 2.54.

- Actual body weight, IBW, and AdjBW are assumed to be in kilograms.

- The 60-inch reference is exactly 5 feet.

- The 0.4 adjustment factor is dimensionless.

- Devine constants 50 kg and 45.5 kg are applied to men and women, respectively.

## Failure boundary

**BREAK_CLAIMED** · SELF_FLAGGED

The extreme-magnitude vector produces Infinity and NaN through floating-point overflow and Infinity plus negative Infinity. The convention probe also exposes an input-validation hazard when height units are omitted or ambiguous.
