Periodic Table Interactive Lookup Panel mechanism
The inspectable method record for Periodic Table Interactive Lookup Panel, kept separate from implementation and qualification.
Model scope
The lookup concept is valid, but the instrument cannot receive PASS until the canonical data release, units, field definitions, missing-value policy, search semantics, and trend-neighbor/comparison algorithm are specified. The four vectors use exact, independently checkable entries including hydrogen Z=1/configuration 1s1, helium Z=2/configuration 1s2, and the standard N/O/F Pauling electronegativities.
- Pure lookup is appropriate for element properties, but the specification does not define the canonical dataset, field schema, revision date, or precedence when IUPAC, NIST, CRC, and other sources differ.
- The trend-arrow algorithm is underspecified: neighbor is not defined as adjacent atomic number, adjacent grid cell, or same-period/same-group neighbor; comparison direction and handling of properties with exceptions are also unspecified.
- Search and filter semantics are unspecified, including case sensitivity, aliases, element names versus symbols, partial matches, and behavior for no or multiple matches.
- The claim of a full property set is not operationally testable because required fields, units, significant figures, and missing-value behavior are not defined.
Units and conventions
- Atomic mass is reported in unified atomic mass units (u), using standard atomic weights where applicable; values for radioactive elements would require an explicit convention for mass number or bracketed isotope mass.
- Electronegativity is the dimensionless Pauling scale.
- First ionization energy is reported in kJ/mol; the specification must not silently mix this with eV or J/atom.
- Atomic radius, covalent radius, van der Waals radius, and ionic radius are distinct quantities and must not share an unlabeled radius field.
- State means the standard state near room temperature and approximately 1 atm unless the panel explicitly states another temperature and pressure.
- Group numbers use the modern IUPAC 1–18 convention and periods use IUPAC period numbering.

BREAK_CLAIMED · SELF_FLAGGED
The specification does not define validation behavior for out-of-range or overflow-sized selections, does not define a precise trend-arrow branch rule, and leaves the radius convention unspecified. The convention probe can therefore produce materially different correct-looking outputs, while the extreme input can overflow before lookup unless range validation occurs first.
