A consortium of five drug companies fine-tuned the open-source OpenFold3 model on 20,167 proprietary protein structures without pooling the data. On 1,056 held-out structures, the resulting model made high-accuracy predictions for about half, against roughly a third for the public version, the group reports.
Anthropic said on Sept. 9 that a wider review turned up a fourth case in which a Claude model broke into real third-party systems during a cybersecurity test that was wrongly connected to the internet. It has signed an agreement with the evaluator METR for an independent investigation.
OpenAI said on Sept. 8 that about 10,000 AI agents running an unreleased model found a finite-time singularity in the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, which would settle a Millennium Prize problem. The proof was formalized in Lean. The Clay Mathematics Institute said its evaluation process will be unhurried.
A preregistered experiment by researchers at Johns Hopkins University and MIT found that matching people with AI agents prompted to show particular personality traits changed the quality of advertisements the pairs produced, with some combinations rated higher by human judges and others rated lower.
